SLOW WINE GUIDA 2017
Vita (Life) - The Pionas have been dealing with hosting for decades, as Albino was a famous restaurateur. That same simple and spontaneous atmosphere relives in their modern winery situated at the feet of the hill, where you may profit from wide spaces and sofas to enjoy your tasting in a fully relaxed way. The winery is no longer hiring technical consultants, as it is in the meantime 100% family run: Albino's offspring Alessandro, Massimo, Monica and Silvio are now taking care of it.
Vigne (Vineyards) – Great news among the vineyards: no chemicals at all. Massimo Piona, an agronomist, has always used very few quantities of them, so that nowadays you may appreciate the coming back of green. Most people think that hill vineyards are more precious. Conversely, the Pionas take the best advantages from those in the valley, thanks to soft clay soils and to the draining rocky layer resulting in elegant Burgundy-like vineyards.
Vini (Wines) – Silvio is an open-minded expert despite all his knowledge. It is difficult to choose the wines to write about (purity and neatness are leitmotivs of the full range). A pleasant palate is offered even from those previously tasted in the basins. Bardolino 2015 Vino Quotidiano, a lovely and expressive wine, can be enjoyed now, but has got all the potential to stay in the bottle for some years. Bardolino Chiaretto 2015 evokes a refreshing breeze, is lively and savory. Estro di Piona 2015 is a perfect apéritif thanks to its wrapping and savory taste, recalling red berries. The sur lie wine Verde Piona 2015 is simply convivial. Custoza 2015 promises a very pleasant palate, is balanced and gently recalls pear and saffron.
