The best 100 Italy's pink wines
Albino Piona inherited his vinery from his father, who founded it at the beginning of last century. Nowadays, it is run by his sons and daughter: Silvio, Massimo, Monica and Alessandro. A great variety of soils is to be found in the 77 hectares of the property, placed in the municipalities of Valeggio S/M, Sona and Sommacampagna. All of them are of morainic origin, the texture and the amount of clay reaching out of the rocks vary. The vineyards, covered with green, are cultivated so as to limit yields. The vineyard alleys are arranged for mechanization, so as to save time between harvesting and pressing, as only fresh grapes are used. Their wines are accurate in every detail. They are able to convey the sense of the territory with honesty and coherence. This is another reason why we like Bardolino Chiaretto, which combines sweet traces of little red fruits and rose flowers with hints of honey and chlorophyll in the definite acid and savory impact of the palate. A refreshing citrus and slightly astringent taste, which recalls grapefruit, elegantly takes you to the final end of your sip.
Winery Piona, friendly and welcoming, is accurate in every detail. It often hosts exhibitions of local artists, following the idea that wine is a form of art in itself.
