Very few Italian denominations have changed as much as Bardolino wine in the past fifteen years: nowadays not only are there more and more ambitious wines, but some of the best Italian rosé wines are to be found as well (…)
Various important events have happened in Bardolino. First of all, the launch of Chiaretto, whose sales are particularly high in Italy and abroad as well, especially in Germany. These good results go hand in hand with the implementation of a program back in 2014 aiming at avoiding premature oxidation (mostly due to sugar) and concentrating on the freshness Corvina grapes can bring to rosé wines thanks to their natural acidity.
Then, a reflection on a better way to express the beautiful nuances of Corvina grapes, both in red and rosé wines, by working with elegance without removing too much. The project aims at increasing the percentage of such grapes during the years (now equal to 80%, growing to a 95% in case the new specifications are adopted) and getting to a better care of wines.
The above mentioned project is willing to stress the three sub-areas of the territory: Monte Baldo, in the north-eastern part, with its peculiar thermal conditions; Sommacampagna, in the south-eastern part, with its well irrigated hills and La Rocca high hill along Lake Garda (including the municipality of Bardolino) which takes the best advantages from the tempering effects of the lake.
