The ABC of rosè wines

An intriguing color palette, ranging from pale pink to claret pink, from cherry red to coral pink, up to intense pink. It's now time for pink wines after being underestimated for so many years as a Cinderella. France is and remains the queen of production and consumption of this sort of wine, still the request of Italian pink wines is increasingly high (Italy is the fourth world producer). This request comes mostly from abroad. As a reference, the United States made Italy increase sales by 31,8% in terms of value and by 21,1% in terms of quantity last year only. Italian enthusiasts are still pretty few. Indeed, we are quite convinced that this is going to change as the knowledge of the product and of the traditional production areas increases. Here is a brief vade-mecum for a better experience. Furthermore, for those who are willing to go deeper in their knowledge, we suggest the recently appeared book “I migliori 100 vini rosa d’Italia” by Slow Food Editore.

Veneto
Bardolino Chiaretto DOC, from Corvina and Rondinella grapes (the same grapes used to make Amarone): these wines are of a very light color and a delicate taste, of a good savory and acid degree, with notes of citrus fruit, such as mandarin and grapefruit, with nuances of spices if tasted after some years.

PAIRINGS

Pink wines are very versatile and, according to the sort, they go with most traditional Italian dishes: unbeatable with pizza and fish soups, interesting with pasta, quiches and vegetarian dishes. Serving temperature: 10-12 °C.
