Guida - Slow Wine 2019

LIFE: The winery dates back to 1893. Nowadays it is run by the fourth generation. They are winemakers and guardians of their local winemaking tradition. Albino Piona father is assisted by his sons and daughter: Silvio is taking care of the cellar, Monica of the shop, Alessandro of the sales and Massimo of the agronomic aspects. They make up for a well-trained team. Each participant is able to express their love towards the arts and beautiful things to such an extent that every single detail is taken into consideration.

VINEYARDS: Piona's vineyards are spread over four municipalities: Sommacampagna, Valeggio sul Mincio, Villafranca and Sona. The Piona's want to express all the peculiar aspects of each different soil. Of morainic origin, limestone and ferrous elements can be traced as well. The climate is mild and windy, getting fresh air from the East. The whole area takes the best advantages from the mitigating action of Lake Garda, granting outstanding thermal excursions.

WINES: The style of the winery is very fine and in no way inferior to the French one. Custoza 2017 is fresh, crispy, salty, with delicate aromatic traces. Custoza Bianco Campo del Selese 2015 is complex to the nose and suggests both floral and citrus notes; the palate is soft and silky. In Bardolino 2017 you can first smell notes of rose and a fine and balsamic bouquet; to the mouth, it is sapid with sweet tannins. An intriguing nose with notes of violet, licorice and bloody sensations distinguish indeed Bardolino SP 2015, sapid to the palate, with a balanced freshness.

Finally, Bardolino Chiaretto 2017 VINO QUOTIDIANO caught our attention for its wonderful expression of the fruit, for its straight acid and sapid character and because it is a powerful interpretation of such sort of wine.
