VERONA WINE TOURISM 2021

The Chamber of Commerce of Verona committed itself to promote the strategic sectors of our territory – such as tourism, a huge resource for our province - throughout 2020 despite all the difficulties of the time.

Great Wine Capitals Global Network GWC is one of the projects it has promoted since 2016 – Verona represents Italy among the eleven world wine capitals.

The Network aims at strengthening the relationships among these great wine cities in all continents and at developing cooperation programs.

The prestigious “Best of Wine Tourism” Award is among the activities of the Network: a jury of international experts takes into consideration seven categories a wine tourist is looking for: Architecture & Landscape, Art & Culture, Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences, Accommodation, Wine Tourism Restaurants, Sustainable Wine Tourism Practices, Wine Tourism Services. It studies the applications from the various cities and rewards businesses with a quality mark.

Furthermore, the Chamber of Commerce releases the guide "Verona Wine Tourism" every year – a useful guide for the wine tourist at the discovery of the territory of Verona.

Our winery joined the project and was presented as follows:

Our family-run winery is located not far from Lake Garda and its morainic hills, in the heart of the Custoza territory. Family Piona has been handing on its unconditioned passion towards viticulture since 1893, when far-sighted and ambitious Albino Piona, the great-grandfather, began to set the basis of a project which is still growing nowadays. Monica, Alessandro and Massimo, exactly as the previous three generations, decided to manage the winery by keeping high the quality of the product. They invested a lot in the short production chain, fully respecting the environment: every single step, from the harvest of the grapes throughout the storage of the end product, is carried out at the new premises in Palazzina di Prabiano in Villafranca. Our family-run winery is open to anyone willing to approach the world of wine: groups of friends, couples, wine fans or wine experts. Tours start and end in the main hall where tastings take place and artworks by important artists are exhibited from April to October. As if visiting an art gallery, you are then going to taste our wines matched with zero-mile products, surrounded by an awesome atmosphere.
