Vini D’Italia 2016
Gambero Rosso 2016
Winery selected in the 2016 guide
Piona brothers and sister have taken over a winery devoted to the production of reliable and pleasant wines from their father Albino and made of it a winery aiming at representing the best quality of the denominations of Lake Garda, Bardolino and Custoza. The winery has got an extensive vineyard, more than what is needed for its production. This allows Silvio, Monica, Alessandro and Massimo to take strict decisions both on the field and in the cellar as well. Their production shows a great personality, thus remaining light and drinkable. As the SP selections were still under refinement in the cellar for a further year, we concentrated ourselves on Custoza. Despite the complicated 2014 harvest, it offers a wide aromatic bouquet to the nose, where white fruit prevails and fine nuances of fresh flowers and saffron are to be noticed as well. In the mouth, the good level of tension is backed by its savory character which brings you to a long finale. Bardolino, indeed, focuses on spicy notes. It results taut, resolute and grants a rewarding palate.
